If you are looking to buy a home on a beautiful lake where you can enjoy it year around, Austin TX waterfront homes are for you. With Austin mild climate and affordable living, plus still seeing appreciation on your property, Austin Waterfront Homes are a great investment.

There are many great waterfront homes in Austin and the surrounding area. Within 75 miles of Austin, there are seven artificial lakes known as the Highland Lakes. The two closest to Austin is Lake Travis and Lake Austin.

There are 7 Highland lakes in central Texas: Lake Buchannan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis and Lake Austin and several development and towns around the Highland Lakes. Four of the six are normally constant level lakes which makes them ideal for boating and water activities. Lady Bird Lake is also included even though it is not considered one of the Highland Lakes. It is the next lake down from Lake Austin in the city of Austin.

When looking for your Austin, TX Waterfront Homes  you will find many different styles from huge mansion to small cottages and everything in between. Prices varies from $200,000 up to Millions.  Lake Travis and Lake Austin prices are usually higher in price than the other four because of their closest to Austin.

Lake Travis is  not a constant level lake like the rest of them and can easy drop 15 to 30 feet in a hot dry summer. In some cases there are flooding around Lake Travis but the Lower Colorado River authority has set up restriction on not building in the flood zone. Many of the houses on Lake Travis are  built on cliffs that overlook the lake, which gives it a beautiful Lake view and scenic hill country views. The walkways down to the Lake can give you your daily exercise and help you keep in shape. Many homeowners built a road that takes down to the lake or have trams that go up and down. 

Lake Buchannan and Inks Lake are about 60 miles from Austin and offers lovely home that set right on the Lake Edge and many of these home owners have their boat slip incorporated with their backyard deck. You can cruise Lake Buchannan and spot Bald Eagles and some beautiful waterfalls on this arm of the Highland Lakes.

Lake LBJ, named after President Lyndon B. Jonson and is part of the Highland Lake  chain. It starts near Horseshoe Bay, 45 miles form Austin, and goes all the way to Kingsland. It is also a constant level lake . Lake LBJ is a great retirement area as well as a recreational area. This area has been rated in the top three areas of the U.S. for retirement.
